The Product

What's the range and how long does it take to charge?

The StepRanger gets 15–17 miles of range per charge on a single 48V battery system. The included 110V charger brings it to full in 4–5 hours from any standard outlet. The dual battery upgrade roughly doubles the range to 30–34 miles.

What's the weight capacity?

The frame is rated for 1,000 lbs of payload plus driver. There's no hard operator weight limit — the structure can support up to 2,300 lbs, and we have plenty of customers over 350 lbs who operate without issue. For drivers over roughly 200 lbs, we recommend keeping ballast in the front battery box when driving unloaded uphill. It improves traction.

What kind of terrain can it handle?

The StepRanger is designed for properties, jobsites, ranches, and trails — packed dirt, grass, gravel, mild snow. It handles up to 30-degree inclines (~58% grade) in low gear. We offer three tire options: stock All-Terrain (best general-purpose), Mud/Snow (loose terrain and winter conditions), and High-Flotation Turf (sensitive grass). Deep, dry, loose sand is the one terrain we tell customers to be cautious about — at ~330 lbs, the StepRanger doesn't have the buoyancy of a lightweight beach cart.

Can I add a hitch, winch, or other accessories?

The StepRanger Pro has a 2-inch front receiver hitch built in — it works with most off-the-shelf 2" accessories. The rear is compatible with a bolt-on zero-turn trailer hitch on the Pro, and the same hitch works on the All-Terrain with light DIY drilling. We don't sell hitches or installation services, but we're happy to recommend specific 3rd-party products for almost any use case — winches, step-down converters, hitch adapters, cargo carriers, ball mounts. Email us with what you're trying to do.

Will it fit through my gate or in my truck?

The StepRanger is 65" long and 31" wide, with a turning radius of about 10 feet. It needs at least 33" of gate clearance. The handlebars don't fold down, so it won't fit in the back of most SUVs (including a 4Runner). A pickup truck or trailer is required to transport it.

Buying & Delivery

How does shipping work and how long does it take?

StepRangers ship fully assembled and crated via LTL freight from our facility in Vallejo, CA. The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window. Most deliveries land 1–8 business days from when freight is booked, depending on your location. Shipping is $250 flat rate nationwide. We currently run a $99 California-only delivery promotion.

Can I see one in person before I buy?

Yes, by appointment. We have units available to view at our facilities in Vallejo, CA, Sebastopol, CA, and Missoula, MT. We're a founder-run team, so we don't have dealers or full-time showrooms — but we're happy to set up a visit. Email hello@stepranger.com to schedule.

We do have customers in all 50 states, if you'd like us to arrange a viewing, we'll do our best to arrange.

What's your warranty?

A 2-year warranty covers defects in materials, workmanship, and any damage that affects performance or safety. We stock every replaceable component for our machines. Minor cosmetic blemishes from freight handling — small paint chips, light fender dents — are normal for freight-shipped utility equipment and are not classified as defects. We sell color-matched touch-up paint on the website if you'd like to address them.

Service & Support

Does it arrive assembled?

Yes — fully assembled and crated. Some units ship in a taller crate with handlebars pre-installed; others require a quick handlebar attachment (about 5 minutes with a 21mm wrench or socket). From there, you remove the crate panels, release the parking brake, and roll it off the pallet. Total uncrate time is about 10 minutes. Batteries arrive 80–100% charged, so you can put it to work the day it shows up.

What if something breaks? Are parts available?

We stock every component for our machines. In nearly three years of shipping nationwide, we've yet to see a motor or differential failure. Most issues are easily resolved by phone or video call, and replacement parts for common wear items (latch covers, fuses, hubcaps) ship at no charge.

How do I reach you with questions?

Email hello@stepranger.com — we typically respond within a business day, often the same day. For urgent or complex questions, you can reach co-founder John directly at 310-405-4977.
