StepRanger didn't start with a catalog and a drop-ship account. It started with a problem we couldn't solve with anything on the market.
Who we are
We're Aaron Jones and John Harrington — childhood friends from Montana, co-founders of StepRanger.
Aaron runs Galanter & Jones out of California, the design and fabrication studio he founded in 2012. The studio is best known for its award-winning heated outdoor furniture — built well enough to still be working a decade in. That's the same instinct behind StepRanger. He lives in Sonoma County with his partner and son.
John spent his career in advertising partnerships at Google, Apple, and Twitter, supporting some of those companies' largest advertisers. He lives in Missoula with his wife and two kids, and uses his StepRanger most days — hauling firewood, working around the lake house, and moving kids and gear.
We grew up together in Montana, took different paths into product design and tech, and brought both skill sets back to one problem when we couldn't find the vehicle we needed.
How it started
We started developing this product over three years ago. We sourced our factory partners ourselves, refined the drive system, tested load capacity, and iterated on everything from the chassis geometry to the color of the paint. The green you recognize? We developed it. It wasn't picked from a swatch.
We sold our first unit in late 2023, grew regionally through 2024, and launched full ecommerce in May 2025. We've shipped to all 50 states since.
How we work
We manufacture directly with our factory partners. No trading companies. No middlemen. We're on-site every month, and we keep an independent engineer on the ground whose only job is overseeing production quality.
When you call StepRanger, you're talking to an owner. We answer the phone.
The original
There are knock-off alternatives now — assembled from off-the-shelf components, sourced through intermediaries, sold by companies that have never set foot in the factory building them. We're not that. We launched this category in the US. We developed this vehicle. We continue to oversee every iteration. We stand behind it the way only founders can.
If that matters to you, you're in the right place.
