Welcome to the StepRanger family! Below you’ll find everything you need to get started, operate safely, and keep your StepRanger running strong.
🔧 Getting Started
Handlebar Orientation
If your StepRanger arrived by freight, the handlebars may be folded forward to protect the headlight assembly. Set them to a vertical position, aligned with the steering column:
- Carefully remove the plastic column cover by unclipping both sides.
- Loosen the bolts, position the handlebars vertically, then retighten.
- Snap the column cover back into place.
Battery Switch
Located on the left underside (driver’s side), just outside the battery box. Toggle ON before use.
Ignition & Lights
-
Insert key and turn:
- One click: Driving ring light + driving power
- Two clicks: Full headlight + driving power
🔋 Battery & Charging
Battery Location: Left-side battery box
Charging Port: Left side under the bed
Charger: Stored in the right-side compartment
Charging Instructions
- Retrieve the charger from the right-side storage box.
- Plug the charger into a standard 110V outlet.
- Connect the charger to the left-side charging port and charge fully (typically overnight).
Note: If you do not have the dual battery upgrade, the right-side port is inactive but pre-wired for future expansion.
🎮 Operating Controls
-
Gear Selector:
- Right (High) — Normal speed mode
- Left (Low) — High-torque, slow-speed mode
- Throttle: Right handlebar grip
- Speed Selector: Low / Medium / High (adjustable while driving)
- Forward / Reverse: Rocker switch near throttle (change direction only while fully stopped)
- (P) Button: Non-functional
🛠 Steering Limit Adjustment
Behind each front wheel is an adjustable stop bolt that limits the turning radius to prevent over-steer. To adjust:
- Loosen the nut on the stop bolt.
- Set both sides evenly for symmetrical steering.
- Tighten the nut securely.
🛑 Braking & Safety
Brake Lever: Left handlebar. Includes a parking lock that disables throttle—engage when parked or loading. Pull brake lever to release.
🛡 Safety Guidelines
- Off-Road Use Only: Do not operate on public roads or highways.
- Best Balance: The StepRanger performs best with a front load. If unloaded, add weight to the front (sandbags or in the empty battery box).
- Start Slow: Learn in Low Gear and Low Speed.
- Wear Protective Gear: Helmet and appropriate footwear recommended.
- Operate in Control: Keep speeds safe, especially on uneven or sloped terrain.
- Age/Ability: Operators must be strong and skilled enough to control the unit safely.
- No Passengers: Do not ride in the cargo bed or side areas.
- Never Under the Influence: Do not operate under alcohol or drugs.
-
Inspect Regularly:
- Tire pressure
- Wheel lug nuts
- Brakes and throttle controls
- Battery: secure connections; keep terminals clean/dry
🎨 Paint Finish & Cosmetic Wear
Your StepRanger is built for hard use. The finish is a two-step process (electronically bonded primer + durable dipped topcoat) focused on corrosion resistance and longevity, not an automotive-grade show finish.
Normal cosmetic variations from manufacturing or freight handling—like small paint chips/scuffs (especially on edges), visible grinder marks near the steering column weld, minor surface ripples, or light dents to the frame/fenders—do not affect performance.
🔩 Touch-Ups & Minor Dents
Paint touch-up
- Lightly sand the affected area to remove loose paint.
- Wipe clean with a dry cloth.
- Apply outdoor metal touch-up paint.
As of Aug 2025, we’re contracting touch-up paint kits. Email support if you’d like a free kit when available.
Minor dents
- Fenders: Gently bend by hand; if needed, use a rubber mallet with light, controlled taps.
- Other frame areas: Use a padded wood block and light hammer taps. Protect paint during any work.
- Touch up exposed metal to maintain corrosion resistance.
📄 2-Year Warranty Coverage
Our warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, as well as damage that affects performance or safety. Minor cosmetic imperfections (including small dents that can be corrected using the steps above) are considered normal for freight-shipped utility equipment and are not defects.
