Vibration or thumping at speed

On a newly delivered truck it’s usually a loose lug nut or a tire that compressed in shipping.

This is usually quick to sort out. If these steps don’t fix it, call or text us and we’ll get it resolved.

What to do

  1. Check the lug nuts on each wheel and tighten any that are loose (3/4" / 19 mm).
  2. Set all four tires to 45 PSI and test again once they’re warm. Our range is 10–62 PSI; don’t use the higher number molded on the sidewall.
  3. On a new truck, a tire flattened in shipping usually settles out with some light use.
  4. To find the source, move a rear wheel to the front and drive. If the thump moves with the wheel, it’s the wheel assembly. If it stays at the rear, it’s the hub or axle.
  5. Pop off the hubcaps with a flathead screwdriver and confirm each wheel sits flat on the hub with lug nuts evenly tight.
  6. A small wobble when you spin a wheel slowly on a stand is normal for a utility rim and isn’t a reliable test.

Still not working? If these steps don’t sort it out, call or text us and we’ll get it resolved quickly. We’ll work through it with you by phone or a quick video, and if a part is needed, we ship it.
